This is a mid-voltage capable Microchip PIC-based robot controller, featuring a socketed 1.0A dual-channel motor controller (SN754410/L293D), seventeen (17) available I/O, a Bluetooth-compatible serial header, as well as the standard 5-pin PIC ICSP programming port.
The included PIC 18F25K22 has 32KB Flash codespace, a 64MHz internal oscillator, dual-channel PWM, dual hardware serial UARTs, and 10bit A/D inputs. PIC code is very efficient and small compared to an environment such as Arduino, so 32Kb is an extraordinary amount of codespace for most robotics applications! Even 8kb is more than enough for line follower maze-solving, or a complex mini-sumo application.
The motor controller chip has a minimum voltage of 4.5V, the board has a 1A 5.0V LDO regulator, and two of the I/O power headers are unregulated battery-voltage level, for applications like fast servos, etc.
Microchip has dozens of PIC MCUs in the 28-pin form factor, so if you have a specific need, please let us know and we might be able to source the MCU, and build a custom board. The board also has a header for a three-pin crystal resonator for those PIC MCU's that may need an external clock.
